Essentially you require only Adobe Illustrator which you can purchase right here if you don't already own it. A graphic tablet is optional. It does speed things up and yes, I do own one. It helps me earn an income as an Illustrator and this is the one I have and love. *hugggles her tablet* Below you will find all the resources I use and recommend for this program.
